Snath fit

Lower grip at hip The cubit measure

Guidelines for proper fit
With the blade mounted, hold the scythe upright next to you. The lower nib should be about hip level. This is the point where the thigh bone (femur) connects to the pelvis.

Put your elbow on the lower grip and point your fingers toward the top grip, there should be a gap of 0–3". For cutting in close quarters, you'll want a shorter gap, for mowing in open field a longer distance works better. The upper grip will fall between your chin and shoulder level when these two adjustments are made.

Fitting a snath is not an exact science. The variables of human anatomy and your mowing technique makes a very complex equation. The guidelines are a starting point. Upper and lower grip positions can be changed with some woodworking skills. Don't be afraid to seek your best position by modifying the snath.
